Hawks Youth Cheer FAQ
What is Hawks Youth Cheer?
Hawks Youth Cheer is a developmental cheer program through La Pine Sports Academy (LPSA) focused on building confidence, teamwork, leadership, school spirit, and cheer fundamentals in a positive environment.
Who can participate?
We offer divisions for a variety of ages and grade levels:
- Tiny: Ages 4–5
- Mini: Grades K–2
- Youth: Grades 3–5
- Junior: Grades 6–8
- Senior: High School
Can athletes move up divisions?
Athletes may move up one division level only, pending coach approval and roster availability. This is typically allowed for sibling placement or developmental reasons.
What does registration include?
Registration fees help cover:
- Insurance
- Facility costs
- Team supplies
- Program operations
- Select team gear depending on division
Included items vary by division.
What equipment/uniform items are parents responsible for?
Depending on the division, parents may be responsible for purchasing:
- Shoes
- Shell
- Skirt
- Practice wear
- T-shirts
Specific uniform information will be provided before the season begins.
Is prior cheer experience required?
No! We welcome athletes of all skill levels.
What will athletes learn?
Athletes may learn:
- Motions
- Jumps
- Cheers/chants
- Sideline routines
- Basic stunts
- Teamwork and leadership skills
- Competition preparation (select divisions)
What is the season schedule?
Fall Season
Typically August–October
- Football sideline cheer
- Soccer support/events
Winter Season
Typically October–February
- Basketball sideline cheer
- Competition season
Will teams compete?
Select divisions may participate in cheer competitions and Game Day events during the winter season.
Tentative competition schedule:
- November
- December
- January
- February
Competition participation may vary by division.
Are fundraisers required?
Fundraising opportunities may be offered throughout the season to help offset program costs, equipment, competitions, and future program growth.
How are coaches selected?
All coaches and volunteers:
- complete required background checks
- follow LPSA policies and code of conduct
- support a positive developmental environment
Can parents coach from the sidelines?
No. LPSA operates as a coach-led developmental program. Parents are encouraged to support positively from the sidelines and allow coaches to coach.
What happens if practices or games are missed?
Communication is important. Families should notify coaches in advance whenever possible regarding absences.
How will communication happen?
Most team communication will occur through:
- email

- team communication apps/text groups

How can I volunteer?
We are always looking for volunteers, including:
- Coaches
- Assistant Coaches
- Team Managers
- Event/Fundraiser Support
- Tournament Help
